Lorraine’s Patisserie is the gorgeous retail patisserie shop located on the corner of Palings Lane within ivy.
The intimate store features an open pastry kitchen where Lorraine Godsmark and her small team of chefs bake throughout the day creating a range of delectable tarts, cakes, pastries, and slices available for take away. The deliciously decadent aroma of freshly baked lemon meringue, raspberry pecan cake and banana bread wafting through Palings Lane and into Ash Street is near impossible to resist.
Lorraine’s approach is understated, evident in titles like ‘date tart’ or ‘strawberry mascarpone’, which sounds straightforward but belie the skill and complexity of these desserts. The same understated approach is used in the Patisserie where the focus is on high quality ingredients and an exquisite product with a delicate touch.
Accomplished and celebrated pastry and dessert chef, Lorraine Godsmark has mastered the art of plated desserts for the past 20 years.
Commencing her career at Rockpool in 1990, Lorraine was exposed to working with beautiful produce and learnt how to run a pastry section, training staff along the way. Once the company expanded into catering, she gained further experience in cooking and designing menus for large numbers.
After a 10 year stint as head pastry chef with Neil Perry, Lorraine decided to open her own café, Six Seven Ate in 1999, extending her knowledge of café baking as well as exploring another side of patisserie and creating everyday puddings including cakes, tarts, celebration cakes and take home desserts.With her cakes in such high demand, within three years of opening, Lorraine decided to expand her business and opened Yellow in Sydney’s Potts Point in 2003, further increasing her repertoire to tarts, biscuits, brioche & croissants.
Warranting a high profile and a fantastic reputation over the eight years Yellow was open, it was no surprise when Godsmark was snapped up by Merivale Group to Godsmark now produces delectable desserts at Merivale’s latest venue, Palings Kitchen & Bar as head pastry chef and Lorraine’s Patisserie, a retail patisserie shop on the corner of Palings Lane, offering a wide selection of her amazing signature sweet treats to take away.
