48 hours with Dan Hong
If you follow Mr. Wong Executive Chef Dan Hong on Instagram, you’ll know that when he’s not creating contemporary Cantonese cuisine he’s all about foodie adventures, cool kicks and taking cute snaps of his kids. We followed Dan around for a weekend to see what he got up to.
8 AM: I always go to the Sydney Fish Market for my seafood, obviously! My favourite places are Claudio’s Seafood and De Costi Seafoods. There is also a great store at the market called Waterside Fruit Connection. They supply Mr. Wong with all our fresh fruit and veggies. Vic’s Meat Market is also the best place for great quality meat. I’ll usually pick up some sneaky BBQ chicken wings at their smoker next door while I’m there! For Asian ingredients, I can’t go past Thai Kee IGA Supermarket at Market City which is right above Paddy’s Market. I’ll then go downstairs for fresh Asian produce. Paddy’s has an abundance of Asian greens.
1 PM: Lunch with my wife and two kids is one of my favourite weekend rituals. If it’s a nice day, we’ll usually drive somewhere near the beach. Papi Chulo and Coogee Pavilion are favourites of mine to take my family. Otherwise we might drive out west for some authentic Vietnamese food.
7 PM: Dinner at Ms.G’s with the boys!
8 AM: I like going for a run first thing on a Sunday morning.
10 AM: My favourite shop to buy sneakers is Supply in Darlinghurst but today I’m off to sell some of mine at the Sydney Swap Meet.
11.30 AM: Green juice time! I don’t drink coffee but I am a big fan of Chatime bubble tea.
4 PM: Finish up at the Swap Meet, what an awesome day with a great turnout. Can’t wait for next year.
5 PM: Time to chill out and play with the kids.
